Yak 5: April 07 – Back in Business with Ceilidhs!

Chatting to our friend Wayne the Brain a while ago, he shyly told us that by chance, he happens to be an experienced Ceilidh Caller! Keth have played many ceilidhs in the past, but had lost our previous caller, so Wayne’s confession set us thinking. Brenda (Richard’s other arf and also Pete’s mum) is interested in dance and movement, so Wayne and Brenda got together, with the result that Keth have been able to recommence our ceilidh activities. Brenda and Wayne have developed several new dances, as well as including some old favourites. A good ceilidh or barn dance lasts for about three hours, with a break in the middle to give your guests a chance to catch their breath. Never danced before? Don't worry! Wayne and Brenda will explain the dances and show you what to do. Food-wise, a hog roast or ploughman's supper fits well with this style of entertainment, along with perhaps cider and good old-fashioned draught ale (for the band). Schedule the food for the interval between the sets of dancing, and your guests will leap up refreshed and invigorated when the dancing begins again. A typical theme for the evening might be pirates, because Brenda and Wayne like dressing up! It’s a real hoot, and the dancers always make many new friends. Give it a go – you will have great fun!
